Course 8 covers:
(1) The Anterior knee. Most commonly called patello-femoral joint dysfunction, this type of anterior knee pain has simple treatment, yet it must be precise. Needling to the sub-patellar region is key.
(2) The Medial knee. The medial compartment of the knee can be both acute and chronic. Targets include the joint space and the ligament. "Threading the joint space" may be an effective treatment.
(3) The Pes anserine. Lacking in the modern Chinese texts, this condition needs proper assessment. Treatment is then relatively simple, with the tendons and bursae of the pes accessible in the region of Spleen 9.
(4) Shin splints. The anterior compartment presents with clear treatment strategies, while the medial compartment oftentimes is more complicated. Proper depth of needle is essential.
The material of this webinar series is the integration of traditional Chinese acupuncture with western orthopedic and sports medicine. We structure these courses to increase practitioner confidence in the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of the lower extremity.

About Whitfield Reaves
Whitfield Reaves, OMD, L.Ac., has been working in the field of sports medicine since he first began practice in 1981. He earned a Doctor of Oriental Medicine degree in 1983 that included a thesis entitled Acupuncture and the Treatment of Common Running Injuries. Whitfield’s experience in sports medicine includes the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, as well as numerous track and field, ski racing, and cycling events nationally over the last 30 years. He has been in the forefront of the acupuncture sports medicine field, and lectures in North America and Europe. He is the author of The Acupuncture Handbook of Sports Injuries and Pain.
Some accreditation bodies have course approval expirations. If the approval expires, you will see a notice next to the name with a date of expiration: "[Until YYYY/MM/DD]". Please factor this date into your own renewal deadline. If an approval expires, you will be able to request that it is renewed and we will submit it for you within 2 business days. Renewals normally come back to us after 30 days. If your accreditation body is not listed under the "Approved" section, you may find it under the "Pending" section. That means that it is either currently pending approval, or that it is available for you to request: "[Upon Request]". New course approvals usually come back to us after 45 days. We use an automated system within our platform that allows you to make these requests in an easy and convenient way. Just visit the course page in your Net of Knowledge account and click the "Request Approval" button at the top. Each "Course and CEUs/CPDs" purchase grants you 1 request per accreditation body. If you request a course approval and do not complete it before its new expiration date, you will need to purchase another "CEU/CPD Add-On" to make another request. If the course is ineligible for approval with an accreditation body due to their subject-matter policies, it will be listed as "[Ineligible]", and no requests will be possible for the course.
