Gluten intolerance is a broad term that includes all kinds of sensitivity to gluten. The general symptoms of gluten intolerance include abdominal pain, gas, and diarrhea. A more advanced type of gluten intolerance, Celiac disease is an inherited autoimmune disorder characterized by malabsorption of gluten and subsequent intestinal damage. Celiac disease is associated with digestive disorders, iron deficiency anemia, osteoporosis, intestinal cancer, lymphoma, and other autoimmune disorders such as Rheumatoid Arthritis. The accepted treatment is a strict adherence to a gluten free diet. Within the intestinal wall are several enzymes, called Brush Border Enzymes, which are important for normal gluten breakdown. It has been theorized that if sufficient quantities of these enzymes were supplemented, gluten sensitivity could be minimized or avoided. This is important, as gluten intolerance has been noticed in patients with digestive disorders, autoimmune disease, migraine headaches, and possibly autistic spectrum disorders. One of the enzyme activities required to break down these peptides has been identified as dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP IV). The lack of this enzyme activity in the small intestine due to the above conditions prevents the digestion of these peptide fragments. These peptide fragments, if left undigested, are thought to elicit immune responses that can inflame the lining of the small intestine. The proteases in Enteromend are designed to provide standardized DPP IV activity, and are stable in the acidic environment of the stomach. Experimental research reveals the proteases contained in the formula also reduce tumor necrosis factor (TNF-a), and thefore Enteromend has anti TNF effects. Currently anti TNF strategies are used to treat inflammatory disorders such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Enteromend also contains enzymes that have DPP IV activity and special enzymes to assist in the breakdown of carbohydrates, protein and fats. It contains acid maltase to assist in starch digestion, alpha galactosidase and invertase to break down sugars resulting from the fermentation of grains, legumes, and cruciferous vegetables, lactase to digest milk proteins, and special proteases to reduce inflammation and breakdown proteins. Enteromend is designed to treat symptoms of food intolerance including cramping, bloating , intestinal gas, nausea and diarrhea. It can be used between meals to help heal the intestines as well as to reduce reactions to food when taken with meals. These enzymes are selected for their broad PH stability, and are combined to provide enzymatic activity throughout the gastrointestinal tract. Enteromend is state of the art formula to address gluten and other forms of food sensitivity. In addition to reducing gastrointestinal inflammation, Enteromend is targeted for clients with food sensitivity, and may have a special role for those with gluten and lactose intolerance as many clients have multiple sensitivity. For example, approximately one third of celiacs still have symptoms despite maintaining a gluten free diet, as they may have additional allergies or sensitivities that have not been addressed, or may be subject to inadvertent exposure to wheat.
Protease-6 (500 DPP-IV units), Amylase, alpha-Galactosidase, Glucoamylase, Lactase, Invertase, Lipase, Acid Maltase, Peptidase
For more than a decade, Health Concerns has been in the forefront of research in herbal medicine, and was the first company to manufacture herbal products in the United States for practitioners. Its founder, Andrew Gaeddert, is an herbalist, lecturer, author of numerous books on herbal medicine, and committed to improving community health. He assisted in the development of clinical trials with HIV patients in 1992, and has been on the protocol team of a study to investigate the effects of Chinese herbs on chronic diarrhea, and an anemia study sponsored by the NIH Office of Alternative Medicine.

Health Concerns formulas are created on the basis of Traditional Chinese Medicine and modern biochemistry and developed by experienced practitioners such as Mr. Gaeddert, Dr. Fong, and Misha Cohen. They are targeted to treat specific disorders, and manufactured under strict quality control. All are continually tested to ensure optimum effectiveness, potency, and maximum bioavailability.
