This is a fascinating category of drugs that are widely used by our patients with lots of implications and interactions with Chinese medicine. This seminar examines this class of drugs and, by necessity, discusses various types of bacteria. Within each class of antibacterials, we will look at other functions, red flag issues, mechanisms of action, adverse effects, and any potential interactions.
Chinese medical practitioners often have very strong feelings about antibiotics, this course will challenge and support a lot of commonly held beliefs and help us be better practitioners for our patients.
Introduction to the course material. This includes a brief outline of the main topics.
30 min - 2 hrsDiscussion of individual antibacterial drug classes. This includes functions, mechanisms of action, adverse drug reactions, and red flags.
2 hrs - 2.5 hrsDiscussion of individual antibacterial drug classes. This includes Chinese medical affects and specific drug-herb interactions.

About Greg Sperber
Dr. Greg Sperber is currently a practitioner of Chinese medicine and host of Sperb’s Herbs Podcasts. Previously, he has been Vice Provost at Bastyr University California, Dean of the College of Eastern Medicine at Southern California University of Health Sciences, clinical chair and director of clinical services at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, San Diego (PCOM), and a clinical supervisor and professor at several colleges and universities. He is co-author of Integrative Pharmacology, Combining Modern Pharmacology with Integrative Medicine and Playing the Game, A Step-by-Step Approach to Accepting Insurance as an Acupuncturist. Dr. Sperber received a masters and doctor of acupuncture and Oriental medicine from PCOM, San Diego, a medical degree from Flinders University of South Australia, and a master of business administration from National University. He has been a past president of the California State Oriental Medical Association and has spoken at many conferences about Chinese medicine, business, drug-herb interactions, pharmacology, and ethics and professionalism.
Some accreditation bodies have course approval expirations. If the approval expires, you will see a notice next to the name with a date of expiration: "[Until YYYY/MM/DD]". Please factor this date into your own renewal deadline. If an approval expires, you will be able to request that it is renewed and we will submit it for you within 2 business days. Renewals normally come back to us after 30 days. If your accreditation body is not listed under the "Approved" section, you may find it under the "Pending" section. That means that it is either currently pending approval, or that it is available for you to request: "[Upon Request]". New course approvals usually come back to us after 45 days. We use an automated system within our platform that allows you to make these requests in an easy and convenient way. Just visit the course page in your Net of Knowledge account and click the "Request Approval" button at the top. Each "Course and CEUs/CPDs" purchase grants you 1 request per accreditation body. If you request a course approval and do not complete it before its new expiration date, you will need to purchase another "CEU/CPD Add-On" to make another request. If the course is ineligible for approval with an accreditation body due to their subject-matter policies, it will be listed as "[Ineligible]", and no requests will be possible for the course.
